The Program objective is to improve access to climate resilient and gender sensitive integrated and sustainable water and sanitation services bypastoral communities in dryland areas of the Borana area of the Oromia region. Specific objectives include: (i) improve access of the people to improved water supply and sanitation services (ii) improve water access for livestock and (iii) improve catchment management for reduced degradation. It will lead to the creation of jobs for both men and women in the affected communities.
The program is structured in three components:
Water Infrastructure development and improved sanitation This component will contribute to the implementation of high priority water supply investments aligned with the national Water Resource Development Plan (WRDP)and with the country’s climate change adaptation and mitigation agendas. Investments are designed with the intent of minimizing GHG emissions through reductions in energy consumption by (i) prioritising gravity-based solutions for drinking water supply, (ii) increasing pumping efficiency for service delivery, and (iii) promoting water conservation through water metering
